The Illinois Search and Rescue Council is a charitable, professional, and educational organization which supports, coordinates, develops, promotes, and implements search and rescue resources with the underlying principles of saving lives and preserving property through its support of the National Search and Rescue Plan, the National Response Framework, and Illinois Emergency Operations Plan.
Our membership is comprised of SAR teams from all across the State of Illinois, and some surrounding areas, that have come together to further the professionalism of the SAR discipline. The most important thing to do is notify your local law enforcement agency as soon as possible. They will begin the process of investigating the situation and will notify search and rescue teams as necessary and appropriate.
It is the policy of the Illinois Search and Rescue Council (ISARC) to deploy trained and screened resources for the following: planning, management, and searching at missing persons incidents. At the request of local government agencies involved in the conduct of search and rescue missions ISARC will provide verification of successful completion of training for individuals who belong to member agencies of ISARC. Current ISARC curriculum includes certificates in Search and Rescue Initial Operations, Ground Search and Rescue, Search and Rescue Management, and Shoreline Rescue. ISARC does not certify K-9s or K-9 handlers, however, verification of member agency K-9 certifications are available through ISARC. Any individual presenting search qualifications who are not members of the Illinois Search and Rescue Council should be independently verified and screened.
